Too Expensive for the service you are given....

We stayed here (thankfully) for ONLY 2 nights. This hotel was too expensive for the service you are given!!!

When we arrived at this resort, we were at first very pleased with the beauty of the hotel and the pool/garden area. The room--at first glance was very nice, even if we were a bit disappointed in the size of the room and the furnishings for the price---$250.00 a night.

What really was unacceptable for a resort in this price range was walking into the bathroom to SEE filthy towels laying in the bathtub! I could not believe that they had us check into the room and it was not cleaned properly. I immediately called the front desk and told them of the filthy towels and requested a different room. They said that they could not accommodate us...no reason given but they would have housekeeping come up right away and clean the bathroom. With this arrangement made, we changed into our swimsuits and heading for the pool.

Upon are return to our room (well over a couple of hours since we also swam in the ocean) the bathroom was still NOT cleaned and the filthy towels were still in the tub. AGAIN...I called the front desk and complained and was given again a reassurance that housekeeping would be there shortly. I was not too impressed with the front desk staff at that point, so I MYSELF called housekeeping and asked for the housekeeping manager. I discussed the problem with her and she assured me she would personally see that our bathroom was cleaned immediately.

We waited and waited...sitting around in our swim suits unable to shower because of the dirty bathroom. After a half of hour, I threw up my hands in disgust and went into the bathroom... grabbed the filthy towels and threw them out my room door on the floor...took the TINY bar of soap in hand with a washcloth and preceded to clean the tub MYSELF!!! It was clean enough for us to shower in so we took our turns in the shower. There was my husband, myself and our teenage daughter (who takes the longest shower of anyone I know) so we were in our room showering and dressing/watching TV for well over 2 hours. STILL no one from housekeeping came to our room during that time.

We left for dinner and were gone well over 2 more hours. When we returned, the filthy towels were STILL outside our room door on the floor! So we knew the bathroom STILL had not been cleaned.

We never saw housekeeping again until the next day: we had breakfast, changed into our swim suits and went to the pool. After an hour, I was getting thirsty and went back to the room for my bottled water. The min. I opened our room door I saw the outside-balcony chairs in the center of our room with the sliding doors left WIDE open. No housekeeping staff was in the room or down the hall! I was fit to be tied...that our room was left open for anyone to just walk into it and STEAL whatever they wanted. I called the front desk and complained about my room being left open and they asked if anything had been stolen. I said I did not think so, then the desk staff had an attitude that I was just a conic complainer or something and didn't state that they would look into the matter with housekeeping. I could tell I was getting no where with this person and decided to take it up with their cooperate office on my return home.

I send my letter of complaint to the cooperate office, received a personal call on the phone from one of their customer service mangers. He was very apologetic about the horrible service and bad attitude of the desk staff. However, I was not about to let them off that easily. Both my husband and I felt we were entitled to a particle reimbursement for our stay. They agreed and sent us a check for one nights stay-reimbursement.We paid for our room $250.00 a night!

As for us...we will NEVER stay at ANY of the Crowne Royal Resorts again and certainly never return to the one in Hilton Head, SC.

You never know what you're going to pay..

We thought the resort was pretty nice - clean, large, bright, well designed rooms with great beds; an attentive staff, and pretty decent food in the hotel restaurant. However, BE CAREFUL of THE RESORT FEE. This is a $10 non optional surcharge on your room to cover the 50 cent newspaper and equally cheap coffee - you can not opt out. This fee is not included in the room rate and they don't tell you about until you check out. It can really be significant if you stay for multiple nights. I believe they do it so that the room rate appears lower (initially) or they need to find a new source for their coffee and newspapers. You will never know the exact amount of this fee if you book your room on many of the online services and there seems to be nothing standing in the way of the hotel arbitarily raising the fee as occupancy % rises. AVOID AT ALL COSTS AS YOU'LL NEVER NO WHAT YOU'LL PAY - whatever the final cost is I can guarantee is wasn't what you initially agreed to. I am never going back to any hotel that charges one of these fees.

This resort was par excellance. If I ever go back again, I will stay at Crowne Plaza Resorts only. Their staff was excellent, the restaurants were great. It’s a good oceanfront property and has great facilities at the beach like towels, showers, chairs, umbrella, cycles and what-not. It’s highly recommended.

The staff were very attentive and helpful. The hotel is clean and the breakfast was good. Our issue was with the room, which felt old, at this price, considering the fees tacked on. In particular, the bathroom needs an update. The view from the room was not as good as was described.

Two stolen cameras!

I stayed the weekend at the Crowne Plaza in Hilton Head SC on April 21-23. I must say this was by far the worst stay at any hotel I have ever experienced, and I travel a lot. I have spent at least 9 weeks in many different hotels this year.

I left for breakfast on Sunday morning April 23 and was gone about an hour only to return to find that my new video camera and digital camera were missing from my bag in my room. When it was reported missing at the front desk I spoke with the manager, but he didn't seem very concerned about the problem. He informed me that he would be in touch with me within 24 hours, as of May 3 I haven't spoken with him since the incident. I spoke with The Crowne Plaza insurance company and they informed me that there was no proof of the cameras being stolen and they were not responsible in any way.

If that was not enough, on Saturday the maid knocked on the door on two different occasions and walked in the room with out knocking after that. I received three phone calls within ten minutes about a room change, when a room change was never requested. On the day of check out, the front deck called to ask when I was checking out at 11:10 when check out was clearly stated on the door at 12:00.

Great Island Resort!

Great location for business conference. The check in process was quick and easy even though they were hosting a several hundred person conference and the lobby was full when I arrived. The rooms were plush and comfortable. The decor was tropical and relaxing and I particularly enjoyed the private beach. The outside gazebo was host to beach party one night. You should also try their onsite restaurant. The food and the service was excellent. Great resort for business or pleasure and very friendly, service oriented staff.
