Short stay

It was basically fine other than the website I booked the room on asked for a smoking preference, and while I realize its not popular to smoke these days, it is still legal and I do in fact smoke, so I was disappointed when I checked in to find that it was a totally nonsmoking hotel. It is more than a minor inconvenience to have to leave the room and go down 6 flights out to the street for a 5 minute cigarette. Also, for the price, I wouldve expected a small refrigerator in the room, but there wasnt one. Also, it was inexplicably a handicapped room, which really didnt matter as far as comfort goes, but it did seem oddly designed for us and a waste of space/my money...On the plus side, it was a great location for our purposes, very clean and the staff was very helpful.

Good, Not Great

Pro's - The location is great. The hotel was clean, and they have a cool bar downstairs. The staff was friendly.

Con's - The walls are very thin. My room had absolutely NOTHING on the walls, just very plain. The TV was a 13 inch. By the time you get the volume loud enough so you hear it from the bed, it's very distorted through the speakers.

Overall, it was average. I'd probably stay there again because of the location.

Great Service, Room not as Great

My husband and I recieved a free stay through my company. We stayed in a King room. The bed was nice but all the other furniture was "old" looking. It was dinged up and dirty. The shower was large but the water smelled of clorine. The pool, even though on a different floor, was so clorinated, you could smell it on all levels in the stairways and in the elevators. No free breakfast either even though they did have a moderately expensive restaurant on the main level. The staff was very courteous and always seemed willing to help.

We used Marriott points to pay for our room. They upgraded our room, without charge, when we told them it was our anniversary. One primary light bulb was out in the room, making it fairly dark.

Great downtown hotel

Stayed for a Christmas Party at the BOB, a great nightclub right across the street. Had no problem getting off the highway and into the parking garage. The room was quiet, well decorated, and most importantly clean. If you want to be right in the middle of the action, this is the place. Only a few minutes walk to the Van Andel Arena, the public musuem, the Gerald R. Ford museum, and dozens of restaurants and bars.

It’s a nice hotel and had a great price because it was the weekend. It was much more than we bargained for.
