The Clarion in downtown Raleigh has a magnificent view, especially from the top floor, where a restaurant bar are located. The restaurant is generally buffet style, featuring a different menu each day. It is affordable and usually very tasty. While the Clarion is by far not the newest hotel in Raleigh, it certainly is well-run and clean. Staff is helpful. The parking deck is spiral and attached, making parking a snap. For any stay requiring very easy access to downtown or NC State, the Clarion is a great option.

I've stayed at the Clarion 4-5 times

I've stayed at the Clarion 4-5 times over the past year (usually just Fri. &/or Sat. nights) and I can honestly say I've never had any problems at all. It's always clean, the staff is friendly, & the rooms are nice. It can be abit noisy on the weekends (alot of people crashing from going to the clubs, like me), but overall a perfect deal for the $ and location.

My husband and I were going to stay at the Sheraton because we knew it was a very nice hotel. However, we were turned off by the fact that guests pay for parking. The Clarion seemed to be in a more convenient location. We were not disappointed. The hotel is wonderful. The roof top restaurant is excellent - both the food and the service. The view is spectacular. We ate most of our meals there during our 4-day stay. The only negative was the bathroom area was rather small, but overall the room was comfortable and clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay there again.

Watch this place-Security Poor!

The front desk is not secure. My daughter dropped her wallet outside the hotel. It was returned to the front desk with all the valuables included (the front desk logged it in and the front desk called to report that they had her wallet and valuables) but when my daughter picked the wallet up, all the valuables were cleaned out. The GM was unsympathetic. Makes you wonder how safe your credit card info is!

I had an awesome view, however, the room smelt musty. The bed was very very uncomfortable and the bedspread smelled unclean. The bathroom was overall clean . The rug was nasty too! I didn't like the stay at all= I couldn't wait to get home to my own bed.

My child and I took the train to Raleigh for the experience, so we didn't have a car. This made it necessary to get a hotel close to the attractions we wanted to see. The Raleigh Clarion was exactly what we were looking for. First of all, it is round making it especially fun for my child. The location was within true walking distance of the capitol, Science Museum and History Museum. And a short cab ride to several other attractions. The restaurant was on the top floor and provided a wonderful view of the city. Dinner was good and the Sunday breakfast buffet had a descent amount of variety and was well done. The rooms were clean and well apportioned. The best part of the stay, by far, was the service provided by the staff. The front desk staff was always upbeat, extremely helpful and resourceful. The waitstaff in the restaurant were friendly, attentive and they never tired of answering the many questions about what my 8-year-old saw out the window. Housekeeping personnel always smiled and spoke when we saw them in the hallways.
The only thing that was irritating was the temperature of the elevators. Since they went straight to the ground level parking deck, the outside temperature went up through the shaft. Made the elevators almost refrigerator like. I cannot imagine how hot they would be during the heat of August! If there is a way to close the "gap" between the car and the building at the deck level, this might help. Either way, not in any way a deal breaker. The hotel was great and we would recommend it to anyone!

Interestingly designed hotel in a great location, but ownership has not spent a nickel to keep it up. Everything about the hotel is worn and stained. Went through three alarm clocks trying to find one that works and gave up. Settled for one that does not work. Very noisy at night. The walls are thin and the hotel had a lot of noisy guests. And a noisy heating unit. Aside from the location, the staff is the best thing about the hotel. They could not have tried harder to be helpful. I hope that the owners are at least spending a little money on the people they employ.
This place has the potential to be a really great urban hotel, but the rooms are sorely in need of refurbishing.

Watch your valeables!. I stayed here for one night only and when I left my room to visit a friend, i was only gone for 2 hours. In that very short period of time, my room was robbed and all my valueables were stolen! I notified the police and they caught the person the next day. There was no signs of forced entry into the room. There seemed to be no security in the hotel at all and only one camera in the entire building. I only recovered half of my property. The service was sub par and I feel the perpetrator knew someone on the inside. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!

It was a pleasure to stay at the Clarion State Capital in Raleigh. The room and the entire hotel was very clean, the location was convenient to the airport, major universities in the are, and a delightful downtown shopping area. I would happily return to this hotel as a guest in the future.

A good choice for a business stay

I stayed here for one night, since I was traveling through the area on business. The room was comfortable, had a great view, close to restaurants, and the parking was easy.

My only reservation was safety since anyone could get into the building from the parking garage. The elevator stops at every level and you didn't need to swipe any sort of key to go straight to your floor from parking. Also, the maid kept knocking on my door on-the-hour from 8 am until noon. I told her that I didn't need anything and would be checking out later. It was very annoying!

Other than that, you can't beat the price for the location and it's a good hotel. It looks like it was renovated recently.
