AWESOME!

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel 3 times. Once we stayed with my teenagers. I loved the rooms especially then because they are so large. We ask for a cot for one kid and we had plenty of room for suitcases and the beds. We never felt crowded. I loved the location and many other things there.

Go to another sister hotel.

Hotel staff was efficient and nice; rooms were very clean. The problem is the bar across the street on Fillmore (behind the Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell fastfood. The patrons of the bar partied outside (loud music, yelling to each other, motorcycles reving-up going around in circles and up and down the street -- noise begins by 11:30 p.m.and continues to get louder until almost 3:00 a.m. Also, a couple of guys continued to hit a tennis ball with a racket against the bar's walls until 4:00 a.m. If you have children or are in the city to go fishing at 5:30 a.m., or visit a museum, zoo, etc., you will be too exhausted to enjoy the day. People at the hotel were yelling at them to stop, but they just laughed and cotninued.

Where we stay in San Francisco

We discovered The Chelsea thru the AAA and liked the free parking and the rate. What we discovered was a FANTASTIC location and a very well run, clean, roomy accomodation. I am a former Pan Am flight attendant and love San Fran. and love to travel. we recommend this motel to anyone who wants a great value. This is a neighborhood that the locals frequent. GREAT shops and restaurants.Last vist our room was recently remodeled.(5/06)Ask about availability of new room...

The best rooms on Lombard, Incredible prices too!

We could not believe it could get better, but it did! We have stayed here before, found the place when hunting for a cheap room. It was such a great price, we stopped looking (after going around the neighborhood and seeing 5 other places!)
But then they went and renovated the place, and the rooms just are incredible! They have all new rooms inside, with very upscale bedding and furniture. The bathroom feels like a spa with all the marble tile and the fancy mirror.
You have to go down to Union Square to find rooms this nice, but Chelsea still beats them hands down for price.
oh yeah, they have free parking too!
The real value came at check in, the desk staff was so helpful with directions, and suggestions. The manager helped us discover a few things we never would have found on our own, after convincing me to leave my car and explore on foot or by bus. I followed a couple tips, and this was my best vacation to San Francisco yet!

Checked into this hotel on the corner

Checked into this hotel on the corner of Lombard and Fillmore. Good price for rooms that are at least 3.5 star quality. Marble bathrooms and very clean fixtures. Parking is subterranean. Staff is professional and knows the area. Rooms have deadbolts that can be locked from the outside. Rooms in back of hotel are quieter than front. Location is within walking distance of shops on Union and restaurants everywhere.

The Irish pub, KT's, is right across the street, so the inn is usually booked Friday and Saturdays nights, so book ahead of time on those days. Noise is also an issue on these days. There's a street-level door in the back of the hotel that slams hard and will definitely wake light sleepers.

PROS: Good quality rooms; good location
CONS: Weekends are noisy

I've been staying here since it opened around 20 years ago. Good location - easy walk to Union Street and Marina area. Noisy on weekends due to Union Street crowds but great on weekdays.

In most ways it was a bargain. It was convenient, pretty clean, large, staff was helpful, parking was free, price was good. Only bad thing was the noise. Traffic noise all night and noise from the bar across the street until 1:30 am.
