avoid at all cost, it's a dump

The employees were RUDE & UNPROFESSIONAL, they did not admit or assume a mistake they had made on our reservation, and the place was a slump that had probably not been upgraded since the early '80s. First, we were assigned a room with 1 bed when we had requested a room with 2 double beds in our reservation. They charged us an additional $88 on an already steep $200+ rate to give us access to the larger room. The 'upgraded' room was so run-down that we could not imagine spending the night in it. We had to look for another place. When we asked for refund due to their mistakes and the poor condition of the room, not only did they keep the full amount of the initial reservation but they refused to refund the $88 they had charged to us minutes before. The experience with this place and its employees deserves a special mention on that category of hotel accommodations to avoid at all costs.

Instead go to the Monte Verde Inn where we finally spent a fantastic night, and where the staff went out of their way to treat us very well and make it a memorable stay.

Carmel is a wonderful town that should not tolerate dumps like the Carmel Lodge. All the opposite can be said of the Monte Verde Inn!

average motel, continental breakfast consists of fruit. no big hoo-ha in regards to the pool. however, it is walking distance of practically everything.. no real view, cable tv, good if you just need a place to rest at night.

Our favorite place in Carmel!

We have stayed at the Carmel Sands many times during the past 10 years. The location is perfect, walkable to anything in Carmel but on a quiet street. There are 2 buildings and the newer "back building" is the nicer of the two with more spacious rooms and renovated baths. The front building is comfortable, clean and the rooms slightly less expensive. We would stay in either but prefer the newer building.

The staff is friendly, but can be hard to find during the night/early morning hours.

There is a cute little pool, no hot tub.

I stay in Carmel 4-6 times a year and this is my place. The staff is fantastic and the location cannot be beat. The price is the best in the town. You cannor find a better deal around, trust me.

Our favorite place to stay in Carmel!

We have been staying here for three years and always get the same room (130), which is darling; it's huge and has a beautiful real fireplace to snuggle by. The staff is always friendly and they always make sure we get our room! It's close to everything. We wouldn't think of staying anywhere else!

Affordable option in Carmel

Not a fancy hotel, but clean, well run and in a very convenient location. Rooms are spacious, but with old decor. Pleasant and helpful front desk staff. Good value for the low room rate.
