First, we were assigned a room with 1 bed when we had requested a room with 2 double beds in our reservation. They charged us an additional $88 on an already steep $200+ rate to give us access to the larger room. The 'upgraded' room was so run-down that we could not imagine spending the night in it. We had to look for another place. When we asked for refund due to their mistakes and the poor condition of the room, not only did they keep the full amount of the initial reservation but they refused to refund the $88 they had charged to us minutes before. The experience with this place and its employees deserves a special mention on that category of hotel accommodations to avoid at all costs. Instead go to the Monte Verde Inn where we finally spent a fantastic night, and where the staff went out of their way to treat us very well and make it a memorable stay. Carmel is a wonderful town that should not tolerate dumps like the Carmel Lodge. The location is perfect, walkable to anything in Carmel but on a quiet street. There are 2 buildings and the newer "back building" is the nicer of the two with more spacious rooms and renovated baths. The front building is comfortable, clean and the rooms slightly less expensive. We would stay in either but prefer the newer building. The staff is friendly, but can be hard to find during the night/early morning hours. It has been nicely redone. Has a small pool and very nice staff. Great location,has great parking, a plus in Carmel.
