The staff are very kind and accomodating. And the food is outstanding. My husband and I go every year for our anniversary (until it burnt down). It was neat to drive up the mountain from Ashville and see the snow and the dinner was incredible. It was the best turkey I've ever eaten and when I e-mailed the owner to inquire about how it was cooked, he shared the recipe with me! It was always a great night out when our family went there. I have now made it a part of my adult life too by taking my husband there a few times, and we fully plan on taking our children there as well! When I heard about the fire, I was truly devestated. Everyone was so kind and thoughtful and did everything they could to try and save our little 13 month old baby girl. We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your lodge to a fire. It's 500 miles to visit her, and we've stayed at Callahan's 6 times, a perfect spot when we haven't wanted to drive all the way. The food is terrific. The little downstairs rooms are tiny but well worth the price(about $75). The upstairs rooms are comfy--our younger daughter sleeps on the sofa bed by the fireplace in the room. During the week, the upstairs rooms include 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts, which is worth at least $80, maybe $100. It was about 1 a.m. and the road was so foggy that I had to pull over. We just happened to find this place. When we got there no one was around. We had to knock on a door, a man answered and he happened to be the owner or a worker there. He took us to the lobby and gave us a room. The room was great. We had breakfast in the lodge in the morning and the food was excellent. The service was the best, and the price of the room included the breakfast as well.
