The Caliente Tropics is a fun redo of an old motel with a fun retro tiki feel. A little tropical oasis in the desert. Kitschy, fun rooms are very comfortable.

We stayed there twice. The first time was in Feb. of 2007. We loved it.
The pool was warm and NOT crowded. the views were wonderful. The next was April of 2008 (Spring Break.) It was like a different place. Rowdy, tons
of noisy splashing children. We asked to check out early and they let us which was nice. We found a nice adults only hotel. I would never go back during Spring break.

Takes pets. Not the best neighborhood. I thought for the price and the fact they allow pets, it was a great place to stay. The pool area is really nice. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly.

Caliente? Not! Avoid!

Pay attention to the bad reviews. This place is loud (partyers all day and night, construction non-stop), dirty (maids everywhere but in your room cleaning; they appear to be the only ones living here), and rude (management who could not care less). I also agree with the review which states how unattended the place is at night ... That is, unattended by every one except the low lifes that troll around the parking lot blaring music. Also avoid the Mexican restaurant on the property - like the hotel, not cheap, and very bad.

I had to spend one night with my two kids in this hotel. The guy at the front desk gave us two keys for two rooms. We went to the first room and the key didn't work. I had to go down to the front desk and wait another 15 minutes to get another key. To our surprise we were able to open the room to realize it was occupied. I was glad the kids didn't have to see a couple fornicating.

This a perfect hotel for junkies.

We Will Be Back

This was not a resort. If you are looking for the Hyatt stay there. They had a great pool with tons of spots to catch rays and a poolside bar. The bar ("The Reef") was totally cool although the price of a Coors Light fluctuated between 2.50 and 3.75 depending on who was bartending. Overall, the grounds were clean and the cleaning staff did a great job with the rooms. The tiki-ish theme was funky but gave the place a little character. All the other similiarly priced spots in the area looked the same - boring! I felt like we got a great deal for ~150/night (4 people, peak season) and most of the time the rooms are a steal at less than 100 bucks - great for college students. If you are looking for a spot where you can sit by the pool and down beers (BYOB friendly) till the sun goes down this is the place. Downtown is an ~10 cab ride for 4 people so no need to worry about drinking and driving.

Cute tiki motel, nothing fancy

We stayed two nights in this hotel in October 2007 for a wedding. I was in a double room with my two small children and several friends were in other rooms. The rooms are really attractive and have been rehabbed to a nice standard, especially the pillow-top beds. I admire the way the owners have taken this 60s motel property and rehabbed it into a cute Polynesian themed motel. The staff was very nice and everything was immaculately clean, I don't know what those other reviewers were talking about. The pool is nice though not as huge as advertised. There was a little restaurant/bar so you could have drinks next to the pool, not fancy. Unfortunately no place there to have breakfast. This motel is located on a strip of budget motels a bit outside of downtown Palm Springs. It only takes maybe 5 minutes to drive downtown and there are nice restaurants nearby, though not really walking distance. I think some of the dissatisfaction with this property is that the website seems to advertise it as a small boutique hotel, when it is really just a nice motel with rooms in a horseshoe shape around parking and a pool in the middle. When we were there, there were no other children around, mostly adults rubbing up against each other in the pool or drinking beer. Lots of people with tattoos. The sparkling clean pool was nicely warm though the spa could have been hotter it was only tepid. There were coffee makers in the rooms and free coffee and tea in the lobby in the morning. IMy friends who were couples liked the size and appointments of their rooms and thought they were a good value. Our double room was not spacious but big enough. I got charged a "resort fee" which was ridiculous because this place is not a resort. Annoying. Except for that, I would stay here again.

Good deal. We were a bit skeptical about this hotel from the price compared to others in the area. We decided to book it and if need be switch hotels once we got into Palm Springs. The hotel was nice, especially for the price. My wife will not stay in a place that is not comfortable, clean, and decent. We stayed the full time. The hotel was clean, the pool was fantastic, and the staff - even maintenance - was extremely nice and helpful. We would stay here again. The price is very good and the location isn't bad either.

Was great for us

My wife and I stayed here. The pool is beautiful. The rooms are all non-smoking. There is a nice lawn area. The rooms aren't much to talk about, but we weren't planning on doing much in the room anyway. The bed was very nice however. The only improvement I could see was if the room was pre-cooled when we arrived. As it turns out we turned the AC on then left for dinner. The room was cool when we got back so it was fine. The price was exceptional.
