They let us know about nightly indian dancing at the Cortez cultural center and some great suggestions for dinner at local restaurants. Nice Continental breakfast that is quick and easy. Perfect pool for kids- only 5 foot so no diving. Clean and safe. Nice spa as well. We had a room with a small refrigerator that worked great to hold snacks and make lunches for the next day out. Close to everything- minutes to Mesa Verde, Cortez Center, Anasazi Heritage Center, huge lake in Dolores, Hovenweepa and anything else you might want to see in the area. Great prices at least half the cost of Durango and nicer area with less traffic, easy parking great food. Perfect place for families with small kids and small budgets. we would stay here again without a second thought- we had a fantastic time in Cortez and we really appreciated the value and friendly atmosphere. Swimming pool is in need of renovation. Breakfast was something you put in the toaster and placed syrup on. The day I stayed there was no syrup. How would you like to have a waffle without syrup? No cereal or rolls. Contractors had reserved many rooms where their employees were staying while working in the area. I would recommend staying here because of the renovation and the cleanliness. This is typically not a cheap area to stay in with the only attraction being Mesa Verde. First of all when we checked in the person checking us in took forever. After a long trip who wants to stand in a lobby for 20 minutes waiting to get into a room? The room was not what was expected either. I was told I would be in a room that was non-smoking. When I got into the room, it smelled like a pub. One of the main reasons we chose this place was because of the advertisment of their hot tub. Only after we checked in did we find out that the hot tub was not inservice. To make things better, when we decided to find another motel with a hot tub, the giant lady at the front desk told me that she would not give me my money back. So we were stuck. We will NEVER stay in this motel again. I don't see this hotel being rated a 3 star, there was no hairdryer, no coffee maker in the room and the window in the bathroom was painted open. The room was very clean, newly remodeled. The staff was very helpful, friendly and efficient. This place has a large picnic area and a great pool. We had a lovely vacation in Cortez. The price-value relationship is excellent.
