Great weekend at the beach

My boyfriend and I just got back from spending 2 nights at the Blockade Runner over Labor Day weekend. We booked The Rendezvous Package that includes 2 nights, a bottle of champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, breakfast both mornings, and dinner for 2 at East for their pre fix menu. I would recommend this package to any couple looking for a nice weekend together. It actually was cheaper when we booked than just the room rate would have been.

We stayed in a King room facing the intercoastal waterway. It was such a beautiful view. The room had a small table and two chairs facing the waterway and was a great place to relax. There wasn't a balcony but the windows open like a sliding glass door would. The hotel was very beautiful and well kept up. The staff was very helpful and polite.

We enjoyed lunch and drinks poolside. While the poolside menu was expensive for what it is you can't beat eating lunch and having drinks by the pool so close to the ocean. The lawn at the hotel was super nice and in the afternoons the staff had crouquet, frisbees, bocce ball, and other activities outside.

We rented beach chairs for the beach for $7.50 each for the day. Which was completely worth it for the comfortable chairs. Saturday night at dinner I wasn't expecting much but was blown away by my dinner. The hotel has a free shuttle that will take you anywhere on the island and pick up you anytime before 2 am. This made a trip to the bar to watch football very easy.

The only drawbacks are the old slow elevators and the service for breakfast one morning was pretty slow. The hotel was sold out for the weekend we were there but this was only evident 1 morning during breakfast. The breakfast was a hot buffet style with waitresses that brings drinks. My boyfriend and I were very impressed by the hotel and would definitely stay there again.

I stayed here in May for a wedding that took place at the hotel. This is an older hotel, about 45 years old. When we pulled up to the hotel, it didn't look like much, but once inside, it was very updated. My friend and I had an oceanfront room. The

DON'T STAY IF YOU VALUE YOUR VEHICLE!!!!!

My wife and I stayed the evening of 24 Oct, 2008. The next morning, 8 vehicles in the hotel's parking lot had shattered windows. Many others had multiple stone chips, broken windshields, etc. The high winds had blown small stones/pea gravel off the hotel's roof(I'm guessing the roof is the type with sealant and then a stone top layer. They would not allow access to prove it!). The hotel denies all responsiblity. No police report could be acquired, since they don't write them for "weather related damages". Randy, a front desk worker, told me the hotel was liable, and that a manager would contact me. After 2 weeks of no contact, I called them. I spoke with Bethany, a general manager of sales. She told me that the hotel was in no way liable, since I couldn't prove the damage was caused by the stones from the roof.

The morning of 25 Oct, 2008, I was at the Salt Marsh Kayak Co, to purchase some End of Season Sale Kayaks(at the companies location, not the waterfront by the hotel). An older gentleman saw my shattered rear glass. I told him what happened. He yelled to his wife and said, "The Blockade Runner got another one! Look at his missing window!" That indicates to me this is not an isolated incident. The gentleman said they've known about the problem for quite some time. When you include the $500 deductible I have on my truck, the time to have all $2918.02 in damages repaired, and the money spent on this OVER PRICED hotel, the allure of the "free breakfast" has lost all its luster!!!! Feel free to ask me any questions: randy.a.notestine@us.army.mil

Ok for the location

We stayed in off season so that was nice. The hotel seemed very unorganized. We were told two different ways the breakfast vouchers worked. The front desk didn't go out of their way to help or to every say sorry for any inconvenience about anything. Our room key didn't work, and again, no sorry, just here. The elevator didn't work one day and no sign was posted on our floor, only in the lobby. Then they took the sign down, and it still wasn't working. Housekeeping was usually ok. The spanish channel was always on our tv when we got back. They did leave garbage one day, but one day really upset us. They left our balcony door wide open when they left. Our morning check out was early. We took our bill from under our door and went to the front desk and had to stand there and wait for someone to come only to be treated like we were bothering him. We didn't know that we could leave if the bill was correct. they could have told us that at check in or printed that on the bill. I have since emailed them and they have never gotten back to me.

Not a Luxury Resort .. You can see

Not a Luxury Resort .. You can see that at one time it was a fine hotel, it appears to have been "let go" and owners today are trying to make improvements..Especially with "curb appeal," grounds, gardens and many rooms have been recently renovated, We got one ,thankfully ,with a nice view of the Harbor (no balcony tho ! ) Nice shower, nice Tv, clean and maintained each day..
First impression going up to room in rickety elevator and stepping into the hallway we were met with a strong musty, mildewey odor, which seemed to go away over the next several days ..maybe it was a humid day ?? Doors to each room reminded me of my college dorm in the early 60's, but they locked and the card key worked , mostly..
Pool was ok, Beach was terrific, Food was wonderful..A bit over-priced but we would go back especially if improvements continue
