A pleasant stay

We enjoyed our anniversary stay at the hotel.
It had charming antique decor.
The room was inviting & clean, with a very comfortable bed.
The Romance package purchase was a lovely surprise!
The staff was friendly & we felt at home. We also enjoyed the nearby shopping, restaurants, & lounges.
It was all right there in walking distance.
We will definitely return again & again!

We're hooked

We went to school in Cedar Falls, and on our occasional return trips, we've always wondered about the Blackhawk. Beginning with reservations, which we made by phone while looking at individual pictures of rooms, this was a great experience. The room was huge, the amenities were wonderfully surprising, and the decor is beautiful. We loved the huge bed and the choice of pillows, and the linens were to die for! The staff was approachable and willing to chat with pride about the hotel. I do wish that there was an elevator, but I guess the lack thereof is just a part of The Blackhawk's considerable charm.

Luxurious, comfortable, and a step back in time

This is a beautiful hotel completely restored, and is furnished with antiques in the rooms. Very luxurious; marble floors and tile, Jacuzzi tub, down comforters, and the beds are very comfortable. The rooms are clean, and well taken care of, and the staff and owners are wonderful and very accomodating.
A nice touch is the "Stuffed Olive" bar, know for it's many flavors of martini's. A cozy setting with leather couches and chairs paired up to seat different parties of customers. A special touch to both the hotel and bar is the numerous works of art throughout. This is all in downtown Cedar Falls with many unique shops and restaurants within walking distance to choose from. I do plan on returning.

Super little historic hotel!

What a Superb location! Right down town by great restaurants and fun little places to shop. I was so pleased with the service and the cleanliness of this gorgeous hotel. At times I felt as if I were in a museum because of all of their beautiful antiques. I spent an hour just walking through the place, looking at all of their original art and collectibles. The room was fantastic, I had a wet bar and it even had heated marble floors in the spacious bathroom and a deluxe Jacuzzi tub. The breakfast was great as well. It was a wonderful breakfast buffet full of anything yummy and fresh that you could want. Not your usual cold cereal and stale muffin “motel” breakfast. WOW is all I can say! They even had fun vintage bicycles that you could take out for free and ride down the pretty trails by the river. I have to say, that this hotel was a vacation in itself. THANK YOU Blackhawk Hotel for accommodating me in every possible way, I will be back! :)

Wonderful surprises in Cedar Falls

This is a great old hotel located on a very quaint Main Street. I believe I heard that it is the oldest hotel in continuous operation in the state.

An architect and his wife own it and are trying to keep it true to its roots. It's decorated with antiques that are solid and a cloud of dust doesn't rise when you sit down on them. Also, when originally built, there were no closets. So the owners have purchased different and beautiful antique armoires as "closets" for each of the rooms.

While there wasn't room service when I was there, the hotel did have a martini bar and an old-fashioned barber shop and was planning on opening a coffee shop.

The rooms are themed, which adds some extra charm. Suites are available -- Yo Yo Ma actually stayed in one while he was in the 'hood -- and even the regular rooms have remodeled bathrooms that come complete with rubber ducky and bath salts for the deep tubs. Added bonus? Free WiFi internet access.

While there, you should definitely take a walk down Main Street. There's a nice coffee shop across the street from the hotel and a few art and artsy stores. Not to be missed is a fabulous restaurant called Montage. It has a great wine list and a huge menu of the best food imaginable, ranging from appetizers like Chicken Empanadas or Chili Cheesecake with chips to pinon-crusted chicken with chipotle sauce to chicken suizas to a down-home comfort food - Montage Squash-Chicken Casserole. Yum!

Switching rooms ? Why ?

I stayed for 2 weeks in december on a business trip. The staff is friendly, the rooms (at least the ones I've seen) are ok, clean. If you like antiques it might be thrilling. Breakfast is lousy (like in most US hotels). What annoyed me most, was the fact, that I had to switch 2 times rooms within 10 days. The only explanation was "Other guest have reserved a specific room number". This was not only happen to me, but with at least 3 other guests at the same time.

This would be a great hotel if they

This would be a great hotel if they fixed it up. It's old and looks it, but instead of looking distinguished the hotel looks like it's covered under a layer of soot from cigarette smoke. I had a friend who lived here and the room they rented him was terrible looking - both the carpet and walls were disgusting. It's a shame, because this place has excellent atmophere. The bar is a good place to hang out on the weekends.

This is a quaint and old style hotel

This is a quaint and old style hotel that has great new rooms that have been recently updated. It is located right next to all the downtown shops and eateries so you can go out at night and not have to go far. The staff is very friendly and were very attentive to us when we stayed there. The prices were pretty decent when we stayed there.

Wonderful Hotel

We're from Cedar Falls, and when a family member from out of town asked for a "non-chain" place to stay, we set them up here.

The hotel is over 100 years old, but it has been beautifully restored. Many of the furnishings are antique, and the decorating is style-appropriate. Each room is a little different from the rest. Those who appreciate antiques will definitely appreciate the care that must have gone into furnishing this hotel.

However, they have not skimped on modern amenities. All of the rooms have a TV/DVD, hairdryer, wireless internet, etc. Some of the suites include jacuzzis!

The hotel is located on Main Street in Cedar Falls, so there are lots of local restaurants and stores within walking distance. It's also close to the Cedar River as well as the extensive local recreational trail system.

Wonderful Hotel

After spending 4 days at this lovely hotel, I can't say enough about its hospitality. The rooms were impeccibly maintained and furnished with lovely antiques. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the service 5 star. A wonderfully romantic place to spend a long lazy week end. Located on Main Street there is an abundance of lovely pubs, restaurants and shops as you stroll down the lovely street. I wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else on my return trips.
