Best Japanese Restaurant in LA

pros: best of everythingThis just has to be the only good (actually, wonderful) Japanese restaurant left in the LA area. I've been going for more than forty years and have never had anything but a most enjoyable dining experience. I go to dinner at Mikado as often as I can, it's worth the drive.

This is the best Sushi in the San

This is the best Sushi in the San Fernando Valley. The restaurant is very quiet and peaceful with superior service. Everything is always so fresh. One of my favorites is the eel. The menu is not limited to Sushi. It has numerous other fabulous traditional Japanese dishes as well. Enjoy!

Mikadon't !

pros: Ambience,DecorWe've passed by this restaurant many times and being open minded to trying something new and Japanese, we stopped to enjoy an early dinner. The atmosphere was friendly and inviting, decor and bathrooms decorated nicely creating what should be the perfect mood to enjoy good Japanese food. Though other reviewers raved about the Sushi, we chose to order off the menu. To our surprise, the menu was limited and dull. We should have known that the food would be as well. When it finally arrived, it was lukewarm, undercooked and unappetizing. The portions were rather small for Asian cuisine and overpriced as well. We've had better tasting frozen Japanese food from the grocery store. Save your time and money.

This is not a 'sushi bar' but a real

This is not a 'sushi bar' but a real Japanese restaurant that serves sushi, cooked Japanese food (Kobe beef) & great cocktails in a comfortable setting... restaurant, patio & sushi bar.

Big parking lot, part of the Best Western hotel chain, but definitely NOT a chain atmosphere.

If you want sushi in a non-strip mall setting, this is the place.

In a hotel, but not a hotel restaurant

pros: AmbienceThis place is pretty good. The sushi isn't the best around, especially since "sushi row" is just around the corner. Drinks are good, sushi could be more fresh.

Perfect for Hollywood Bowl attendees

If you want a nice, clean place to stay after attending a late concert at the Hollywood Bowl - this is the place! Just a short distance down the freeway from the LA Zoo, where you can park for free and take the shuttle into the Bowl.

We thought this hotel was perfect for the location and the price. Old style architecture, quaint Asian theme - comfortable beds and the thoughtful touch of having an extra pillow and blanket in the dresser was great. We had a fridge and microwave in our room, which, although on the street side, was amazingly quiet.

Parking could be a problem, as it seemed limited, but again, we had no trouble finding a space when we returned from HB at 11:30 pm.

The staff seemed a bit reserved, but polite. The breakfast was incredible for a 'breakfast included' hotel. Eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, french toast, muffins, etc, etc. Lovely!

We would definitely stay here again - and recommend it to anyone traveling in the area. Great job!

We spent five nights here while

We spent five nights here while visiting a friend of my husband's. Although the decor in the room is dated, it was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The internet cable did not work for us, so according to the table tent on the room desk, we asked for a wireless adapter card, which worked most of the time for us. (The front desk personnel were unfamiliar with it, and at first claimed not to have one, but we did obtain the wireless adapter.) The complimentary breakfast was very nice, with scrambled eggs, toast, English muffins, bacon, waffles and various fruit. This saved us (a family of three) approximately $* per day.The folks at the front desk were always happy to get us extra towels for the pool (which is beautifully tiled, by the way) or the hot tub, which is quite warm, even for me, and I like a good, hot, hot tub. The grounds are very nice and a salon where you can get a spa pedicure is just down the street. A fitness center, even a small one, would have been very much appreciated. We really enjoyed our stay at the Best Western Mikado Hotel, and would recommend it to anyone. Have a great trip!

I highly recommend!! We came to LA

I highly recommend!! We came to LA nervous about staying in a hotel after reading so many bad reviews. We decided to wait till we got there and checked out the areas. I'm telling you - this place is great! - and I am very relieved to have found it. What a perfect place to stay in LA! Ideal location near two highways. Safe neighborhood. Free full breakfast! The beds were soft, room had internet, and kids loved the pool.

They are ok but the staff is not always knowledgeable about the policies on the gold crown options. They could use some better towels and mattresses.
