cockroaches-peeling wallpaper-great location

the hotel room was very run down. the rugs were coming up, the paper was coming down and there were two roaches we killed. however, if you can live with those things, you cannot beat the location for the price. the staff was friendly.
have to give a horrible rating because of the bugs.

This was the worst hotel that we have

This was the worst hotel that we have ever stayed in. First of all there was no remaining parking on the property which we had been promised secured parking. Memphis is a very dangerous place and we had to park our car several blocks away in 20 degree weather. The staff was very unapologetic. This also caused us to be late to the concert that we came for. The room was dirty, especially the bathroom (hair everywhere). There was carpet torn out in the corner of the room. Please do yourself a favor and pay a little extra and stay anywhere else but this dump!

The Benchmark totally suited my needs

The Benchmark totally suited my needs for a weekend in Memphis. It's right across the street from the uber-prestigious Peabody hotel, and right in the midst of Beale st, nightlife, awesome restaurants, and shopping, The river is only a few blocks away also. The staff here were super-friendly, and went out of their way to make my stay safe and enjoyable. It has a lovely lobby with a fountain, gift shop, small fitness room. They are going to begin renovations soon to spruce it up even more, as it is an older hotel, and bring back the cocktail lounge. The rooms are no=frills, but quite roomy and comfy. My tv broke and they brought up a new one in 5 minutes! It's also very clean. My room had a big window overlooking the Peabody. the maintenance man was wonderful- took care of any problem, and as I was a young woman on my own, he even walked me to a nearby restaurant for my safety, and said to call the hotel if I needed him to walk me back. Overall, it was better than i expected & will return again in May for the 'Memphis in May' BBQ & Blues fest,

This hotel is just 2 blocks from the nightlife on Beale Street, has an in-house Denny's (perfect for those late night cravings), and is very affordable. The staff was very accomodating. The room looks like it hasn't been updated in awhile and could definitely use a facelift, but is all in all clean and a great place to stay. Many parking garages nearby as well.

Roach motel, literally

My sisters and I stayed here to attend the 5K for St. Jude. We wanted a hotel close to the start and finish line. We killed 2 or 3 roaches in our rooms! The staff was awesome, but we will never stay here again. Our rooms were next to an alley and we could hear trucks beeping as they were backing up all night, not to mention the car alarms going off, and the fact that our blinds wouldn't close all the way. In one of the rooms, there were beer tabs next to the nightstand, what looked to be food on the sink, and hair in the bathtub.

We enjoyed our stay at the Benchmark and found the staff to be very friendly. Also centrally located and within waliking distance of Beale Street.I would reccommend it. Make sure and use the Parking facilities provided, well worth 15.00 a day.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel, ther were faults as with any hotel, we were apprehensive at first when we saw some of the reviews, but were pleasently surprised at the standard for this low priced hotel, cotton sheets were a bonus, yes it is dated and could do with some maintenance which i hope is actioned soon.I would stay there again. It definately beat another HEARTBREAKING Hotel that we stayed at.

... they still have one working elevator!!!
My husband and I (German) stayed at this "hotel" for 2 days in september, we better not. We asked for the rate (119 $), we tought it´s expensive, but the lobby was so graceful and we decided to stay. In the room we were shocked, the bathroom was soooo dirty, so we called the lobby and they gave us an other room but this was not better. the air condition was so loud that we could not turn this on. It was awful in this hotel!!!

Convenient location is about it.Parking, unfriendly slow staff, unpleasant odors.“Thankfully our stay was brief. Other than location, there is not much positive to say about this hotel.”
