I received confirmation of our dates and room. I flew for 24 hours to come home from Iraq. I then drove for 12 hours to the Avista. When I arrived at the Avista they told me my reservation had been cancelled. They made the mistake and all they offered was a room at The Prince Resort. We had to take the room, very little choice in the matter. The Avista did'nt care or try to help us or make the situation any better. I would not recommend any hotel or resort that would make a mistake like this. Your family could be on the street with out a place to go!!!!! The older staff members wer not helpful at all. The younger kids working there were very nice and more helpful. The check in area to unload was a joke, no room to manuever your car. Then the elevators were a total joke waiting as long as 10 to 15 minutes to get one. Then the parking was tight and hard to get into the parking spaces, then you had to wait for traffic to get across the street. The amenties were not adequate for the amount of guest. The room was dirty and the washer was not big enough for more than 7 pcs. It took three hours to complete a load. We had requested trash bags and never got them. The pool area was located near a dumpster and the smell was awful. The only good thing I can say is that the pools were cleaned every morning. No gift shop located onsite as well for the small things you may have needed. No real activites for the children. The pools were not deeper than 4ft and then only two outside. For the price that was paid our family was extremely dissapointed for our family vacation. Never ever again will we stay there. The pools and deck were small and disgusting with NO bathrooms, rooms are unkept, parking is a joke (unsecured, tiny spaces, and across a VERY BUSY 4-lane road), no one ever around at the pool, staff is unfriendly to say the least, and overall, it is just a CHEAP, LOW-RATE MOTEL...NOT a "resort." Perhaps a good place for college kids on Spring Break, but NO WAY will we ever return to this place, and I will make sure everyone I know stays clear as well! We have always been a family that when we go to the beach we always go to a different location than before. We just got back from N. Myrtle and i truly have to say the Avista Resort was the best ever. You are right on the beach and so many pools and hot tubs. Also their food and room service is wonderful. They have someone to help with every aspect of your stay. From helping you unload your car when you get there to helping you pack the car to return home. The pools were clean and so was the entire resort. This is a wonderful place to stay especially if you have children, they will have a ball. The view from our balcony was wonderful. If there was a down side it would be that the washer/dryer is too complicated to work and takes too long.
