We were happy with the hotel overall

We were happy with the hotel overall except for the bed. We were thankful that we were upgraded to a 1bdrm with kitchen without requesting it. That was a bonus. But the refrigerator was noisy and sounded like a cat was trying to get out. And after 2 nights in that room the bed was so excruciatingly painful that they moved us to another room of the same category. But that bed was not much better and I came home with a very stiff neck and shoulders. You're supposed to rest well on vacations and because of the bed we did not. I found myself sliding towards my boyfriend because it was so soft!Everything else was fine, the location was good, the staff were polite and helpful, the parking was easy and housekeeping was responsive. I guess they couldn't do much about the beds. I have to take away one star because of that and I don't think I'd stay there again unless I checked to see that they changed the mattresses. I mean, you can't wake up in the mornings on your vacation with back, neck and shoulder pain!!

The place was OK but rather sterile. No tiki bar, restaurant closed early. There was a river that flowed right next to the hotel. When it rained the river turned brown and caused the beach water to turn brown. They advised not swimming in the ocean under those conditions. When it rained, the drainage on the walkway was bad and water came in the room under the door. The staff was accomodating and courteous, but there was not much that they could do about these two situations. The workout facility was very good. The restaurant menu was a bit pricey and somewhat ordinary.

At first glance, the Kaanapali Shores

At first glance, the Kaanapali Shores hotels is beautiful...the grounds are exceptional and well groomed. The front desk staff was professional but not overly friendly and warm. We were honeymooning and had reserved a studio room....to the best of my knowledge, all studio rooms face another hotel with very LIMITED ocean view. You cannot leave the lanai door open at night....we tried every night....only to be awakened between 6:45 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. to construction crews working beneath us and to garbage collection vehicles. I know, you are thinking why in the world would we leave the door open....I'd like to say it was because I wanted to wake up to an ocean view (although in fairness we could hear the ocean in the background if we listened closely) but in all honesty it was because our air conditioning unit was malfunctioning and after reporting it several times and getting no response, we decided to just make the best of it. The rooms are older and they are adequate...nothing fancy or upgraded in any way....We did enjoy the pools....while not fancy, they had an awesome happy hour and the pools were clean and rarely crowded. The beach access was just a few steps so it made for very easy "romantic" sunrises and sunsets. The restaurant was great....food is reasonably priced. All in all, I would rate this hotel fair, but I wouldn't stay there again......Maui is gorgeous....go and check out Kapalua Bay.....

We traveled to Hawaii to celebrate my fiftieth birthday. There were 27 in our group of family and friends. You would think the staff would be a little appreciative when you are occupying seven (7) suites but saddly you get only a polite aloha and nothing else. Every room had a local paper delivered each morning...except mine. When I went to politely request one from the front desk I was made to feel like I was asking for something much more expensive than a paper. After answering many questions about where my paper might have gone I was provided a copy. This continued the next day and I was told by a pretty rude clerk to go and buy one in the hotel store. It only cost me a buck or so but the point made to me is they do not care enough to provide the small things like a smile, a paper or even a coffee bar (unless you sit and listen to an activities seminar). We spent quite a lot of money here and i can honestly say I will not return to this resortquest property ever again.

The hotel itself is beautiful but it stops there. They try to get you for every penny and the room my girlfriend and I stayed in definitely was not worth the money. They charged $9/day for parking and a daily fee or as they put it "a nominal fee" to use their safe. If that is not bad enough it was at the "very end of Kaanapali beach" which does not do one of the most beautiful beaches justice at all. 3 Star hotel at most.

Called ahead asked for upgrade for honeymoon.Told we would have champagne waiting upon arrival. Instead walked into an open room after 9hrs of travel to a plumber fixing the sink for half hour.Had to fight with hotel to honor $100.00 credit for restaurant and medication was stolen from our room by maid serivce with no resolution from hotel management. Will stay in another resort along Ka'anapali beach if I went back to Maui. South of Black rock beach if possible.
