My husband and I have stayed at the Anchorage Inn several times and have always enjoyed ourselves. The location of the Inn is right next to Water Front park and East Bay street where there are lots of nice places to eat.

The rooms at the Anchorage Inn are clean and simple. Make sure to ask for a room overlooking Vendue Range... They front desk staff is helpful in setting up tours and making reservations for dinner.

Excellent in a creepy way

Great location, near the shore and market. Just a short walk to just about any location in downtown. Our room had no window, but it added to the creepy, haunting, ghostly effect of Charleston. Excellent service, wine and cheese in the afternoon, Brandy at night. We will go back here again.

Felt like a nuisance

The only thing that is good about this place is the location. The scenery around Anchorage Inn is breath taking. Other than that, I would not recommend this place to anyone. Upon arrival, we were not even greeted. Rather, the reception person was on the phone speaking with an attitude to the customer. She hung up the phone and said that she "was not babysitting adults today". When she finally asked what I needed, I checked in the the hotel with no information about their ammenities or surrounding tourist attractions.
The room was nice except for it's paper thin walls. I was awoken on a Sunday morning at 7:00am by the downstairs visitors talking in a regular tone (i.e. they were not yelling).
Breakfast was a disgrace. No Coffee!!! Who doesn't have coffee in the mornings????? When we asked someone to replace the items that were missing (i.e. coffee, bagels, utensils, etc.), we were met with more attitude and non-responsive feedback.
The only thing that this place has going for them is the location. Unfortunately, they rely on that solely too much and guests are left unsatisfied.

The location, the room, the historic

The location, the room, the historic aspect and the free wine and cheese, sherry and breakfast. It was different from other hotels in a very nice way.Could have had more television channels and free parking would have been nice. I was unsure of it at first, due to the fact that it was only a 2 1/2 star hotel, but became excited to find out that it did offer free wine and cheese, sherry and continental breakfast. It was also across from one of my favorite restaurants on Vendue! It was by far one of the most cute and enjoyable hotel experiences I have had.

Location is perfect, staff is very friendly. Most of the rooms don't have windows to the exterior & are small. Our room had no window to the outside, just a small window towards the hall, and was very small. Ask for a front room. The hotel is charming, staff nice, and location perfect.

We traveled to Charleston for a

We traveled to Charleston for a Valentines day getaway and chose the Anchorage Inn. We stayed in the Charleston Suite. Overall our stay was outstanding, with a few minor complaints that the would have made this a perfect place to stay. Don't let the "bad" discourage you, we would defiantly stay there again! The good:
- The room was clean, comfortable and spacious
- Location! Right off of Waterfront park and within walking distance to everything. We parked the car upon arrival, and didn't see it again until we left.
- The only issue that we did have with the room (dead remote batteries) was fixed instantly with a smile by the staff.
- The bad:
- The inns web site list concierge service. Upon check in I sought the help of the staff in dinner recommendations and setting up a private carriage ride. I asked for a recommendation for a nice Italian place but the young lady had no knowledge of any Italian restaurants in the area. I then asked if she could help make a reservation for a private carriage tour, and was told that I would have to walk to market street, find a vendor and see if anyone would do a private tour. Within 15 minutes using the restaurant guide and phone book in the room, I was able to take care of dinner reservations and set up a private carriage tour for the next evening.- Other than the receptionist the staff was mostly invisible during our stay. This may be by design, and I must admit it did give the feeling of having our "own place", but it would have been nice to have folks around to help with questions, make recommendations, etc.

As a young chef I started my career in

As a young chef I started my career in Charleston, and after a year of marriage my wife and I decided to take an extended vacation after another wedding we went to the prior three days in Pawleys Island. The entrance to the Inn is enticing, as you walk into a quaint lobby, you are greeted by a well mannered desk attendant, who sent us up to room ten, once inside the room I could barely move around, the size of the room was like a 8X10 that barely held the queen size poster bed it housed. The hotel boasted a continental breakfast, that in fact it had but no syrup for precooked french toast and waffles that were cold was much needed. The afternoon reception was held but we ventured out for activities. The evening nitecap of sherry was a great idea but no hostess or attendent was unappealling.Location of the Inn is a plus, you will be within walking distance to all of Historic Charleston. Area restaurants that I recommend include Cypress(Young Talented Chef), Magnolias(Charleston Staple), McCradys(Have a Chocolate Martini in the Wine Bar after Dinner), Tristan(offers a great Prix Fixe Lunch $15), Meritage(best Tapas and late nite in Charleston)

Classical elegance

I loved the Victorian decor of the Inn and the plush design of the interior. The amenities are fabulous and the location was perfect for visiting downtown shops and restaurants within walking distance.

We had a great stay at this hotel. The layout of the rooms - centered around an interior courtyard - is unlike anything else I have ever seen. The staff were extremely courteous as well.
