I read a lot of good things about this hotel, so my expectations may have been a little too high. The management and employees are helpful and friendly. The location is excellent, and the lobby bar feels very comfortable. The food is also very go

Wife and I spent the week of Christmas '08 here, and what a wonderful experience. Bar and lounge, nice and cozy, manhattans, bass on tap, sliders, expensive there, but great deal on room, nice king size bed, very comfortable, noise from construction started after 8 am, but we were up by then, so no problem.....nice, friendly service, close to times square, grand central, everything. Would go back in a new.....well, the literary stuff, new yorker cartoons on the wallpaper, reeks with literary history........do it.......you'll love it.

My 2 daughters (17 and 20) had a great trip to NYC and loved staying at the Algonquin Hotel. It is an "older" hotel, but has a lot of class and an excellent staff working there. We stayed in a suite, which was great for the 3 of us. The "bell boy" gave us great tips about getting to Times Sq. for New Years Eve, places to eat (Brooklyn Diner) and how to save $$$ getting to the airport (take a taxi if 2 or more people). We did not eat at the hotel b/c the prices seemed a bit high. However, right next door is the Red Flame, which was great for breakfast. New Year's Eve in Time Sq. is not for people without stamina. We were told to get there by 1pm and so we arrived about 12:30. We stood out in the cold (it got down to 19 F-about 0 with the wind chill) for 12 hours, no port- a -potty and only the snacks we brought to eat. It was exciting to be there when the ball dropped, but if you go make sure you dress as if you were skiing or snowmobiling. Maxie's has great cheesecake.

The Algonquin Hotel, located within

The Algonquin Hotel, located within easy walking distance to Times Square and other main attractions in NYC, offered a warm, personal, surprisingly quiet and inviting atmosphere to our trip. Breakfast was superb. And although the rooms were small, they were quite comfortable and offered all we needed. The historic nature of the hotel also proved intriguing. How wonderful to walk through halls once walked by literary celebrities. We purchased an Algonquin Christmas ornament to remember our wonderful visit there. And we will reserve a spot there the next time we visit the Big Apple which will hopefully be quite soon.

My husband and I stayed at the Algonquin for 4 nights in December 2008. This was our first trip to NYC. The staff was above and beyond what we expected for friendliness, service, and helpfulness. The rooms were very clean, and spacious enough for 2 people and all our souvenirs! It was quiet and the beds were AWESOME! So comfy. Bar was a bit pricey, but we did not eat at the restaurant, so I could not comment on that. Shower was luxurious and the room had a nice tub, as well. Flat screen tv was nice, and roomy closet helped with storing luggage. All in all, we would stay again without hestitation. We researched online for literally WEEKS and read every detail of all the reviews. This hotel was just perfect for us. Charming yet updated and comfortable. Location is PERFECT, between 5th ave shops and 6th ave (easy walking to Rockefeller Plaza, Radio City, Gray Line double decker bus office). Just about 2.5 blocks from Broadway, Times Square, just where you want to be!!!
