Can't wait to return to Charleston and the 1837 B&B! My husband and I have stayed in many B&Bs throughout the southeast and Maine and the 1837 ranks high on our list as the perfect choice for a special long weekend. Our trip to Charleston was mainly for the wedding of dear friends, but was enhanced by our stay at the 1837. The room was on the second floor and was beautifully decorated. One of our reasons for choosing B&Bs is the fact that the bedrooms are cozy, comfortable and inviting. The canopied bed was all of the above. Great nights of sleeping throughout the stay.
We were especially impressed with the scrumptuous breakfasts each day and the only repetition in food was fresh fruit which was presented each day. Who wouldn't want fresh fruit every day? From stuffed french toast the first morning to a delicious frittata on our last day, all the entrees were varied and beautifully prepared and presented.
The location is ideal, two blocks from King Street which has wonderful shops and restaurants, and an easy stroll to many local sights. We walked to an owner recommended Italian bistro very near the B&B on our last night and enjoyed a marvelous meal.
Our large SUV requires finesse in parking but we managed quite well in the B&B area and street side parking.
One chilly afternoon after an excursion we returned to the inn and the staff prepared a tray with hot tea for our room. What a delightful treat that was...just another special amenity at the 1837.
Our memorable stay was accentuated by the staff who were very adept at not only expertly preparing a gourmet breakfast for 10-12 guests each morning but also accommodating questions concerning the inn and the area. We love Charleston and now we love the 1837 B&B as well. Don't know what took us so long to finally stay there, but now we can't wait to return.

Our room was very nicely appointed and the staff were pleasant and helpful. Our only issue was that staff skipped the afternoon tea on two days because of holiday plans -- which was mildly inconvenient for guests who were there precisely because of the holidays.

1837 is an absolute delight. A three night stay provided a first class base from which to explore the historic and very stylish Charleston. The 1837 breakfast is a particular highlight: delicious southern fare prepared by a delightful manager (she's a real hoot!) and interesting fellow guests. Don't miss the opportunity of 1837.

My husband and I were celebrating our 40th anniversary and our 1st stay was Savannah, GA, which we loved. when we arrived at 1837 B&B we were greeted by the manager and owner. They took our money and were happy to do so and we never saw them again, only to find collage students running the business.

We stayed at the 1837 Bed and Breakfast for three days and absolutely loved it!! The room we stayed in was on the top floor (3-2) and it was so big and roomy. The bathroom was very spacious as well. The whole place was very quite and relaxing. The breakfast was very good!! and the staff was so nice and helpful with anything we needed. Its very close walking distance to all the main stuff in Charleston and I can't wait to stay there again.

The 1837 Bed & Breakfast is a quaint little inn in the Historic District of Charleston. They offer free off street parking, but the spots are pretty small. All of the rooms have a queen size bed and some are even haunted. We chose NOT to stay in one of those. Jane is the head inn keeper and she really knows her stuff! She gives great suggestions on tours and attractions and gets everything set up for you.

Make sure you get up early and have the FULL breakfast and come back in time for the Southern afternoon tea on the outdoor piazza's.

Great location (able to walk everywhere) in a great Southern town. Stayed in the Carriage House which had plenty of character & all amenities, but smaller room. Comfortable porch w/ afternoon tea. Breakfast was good, maybe not great. Tight parking. Very enjoyable stay.
