Chiclayo, Peru

Safely arrived in Peru after 28 hours of travelling since Riobamba. The buses aren't too bad, but strangely the only 'Cama' bus (where the seats go back to almost horizontal position) we were offered was the 3 hour bus between Piura and Chiclayo. Could really have done with one of them on the 9 hour boarder crossing!! Peru seems very different to Ecuador, but can't pinpoint how at the moment. We spent 2 days in Chiclayo looking at some ancient pre-columbian ruins, Sipan and Tucume. They weren't that great really as there is not much left of them, since they have been washed away by el nino floods. You can make out the bare shape of the pyramids, but they just look like piles of mud. I relunctanly followed some local kids into one of the pyramids, with only a candle to see the way, we walked through and down for about 20m, and most of the time I was just hoping I wouldn't be trapped in there or kidknapped by men hiding in there, anyway I eventually got out alive. We also both got accosted by Peruvian tourists and school kids to have our photos taken with them, which was quite amusing. Chiclayo is a nice place, a chilled town near to the sea. The food is nice here in Peru, I ordered a fish grill yesterday and was given a chicken grill. When I asked the waiter what it was he insisted it was fish. Had a comedy discussion with him, telling him it was blatantly chicken, but he was having none of it! Doubting my Spanish, I even got the dictionary out and was making fish and chicken actions with my hands, but apparently it was definitely fish. Oh well, it still tasted good, but it was definitely chicken!! For breakfast I decided to try a local dish called Cau Cau, it wasn't the best, the potatos, peas and carrots were nice, but the accompanying pile of skin covered chicken, mostly skin, was a bit off putting...
