Yasawa, Fiji
4 Stars  This place was Great
Was picked up at 8am and taken to the ferry port. I boarded the ferry, bound for seaspray resort. I say resort, tahts a rather generous description. You sleep in a wooden hut, wash under a tap connected to a tank of rain water and there is no electricity, shops etc etc. Its juts a few wooden huts on an island and thats it. I arrived in time for lunch and had fish. I never eat fish as I think its rank, yet this was amazing. I dunno what fish it was, but it was superb. The fact that it had been caught that morning by the bloke who helped run the accomodation may have explained its superb flavour.

After dinner I laid on the beach for a bit and read and also chatted to the other guests-9 of us in total. The evening meal was also superb and was an experience in itself. As there is no electricity on the island, when it gets dark you are given a lantern that you have to brinng to the meal with you and place on the table. After the meal we took part in a kava ceremony with the locals. Kava is the local drink and whilst not alcoholic, it is mildly narcotic. We all sat around in a circle whilst a large bowl of the stuff was mixed up. We had to use half cocunut shells to drink from and it is a complex process. There is a set order in which you have to clap, say bula, there is a hierarchy of who drinks first etc. Also, the stuff looks like muddy water and tasted worse. Its rank. It als makes your lips and tongue go numb. About 1/2 way through we were joined by the chief of the village. Disappointed to find him dressed normally (I expected at least a head dress), I was impressed by the fact that he brought his own cocunutshess-much like an elderly man in a workingmen club has his own tankard. I wonder if his coconut was initialed...

Thursday 26th:

Well, whatever is in that stuff it ensures a good nights sleep. Over breakfast we sat and discussed the previous nights events and our plans for the day. Sitting about doing as little as possible seemed the favourite option, though I decided to break up my relaxation with a walk over the island to the Blue Lagoon. This is well known and appeared in a film of the same name some years back. It was really pretty and to enjoy the views in details, I walked back to my accomodation around the isalnd, as opposed to over the top of it.

In the afternoon theAmerican bloke mentioned to the owner that he was pleased the chicken didn't wake him up early as it had done the morning previous. 'What do you think you te for last night tea?', came the reply.

One thing here isthat, as there is so little light pollution, the stars are so clear and there is so many more of them visible. The sky is absolutely packed with them and its unlike anything i've ever seen
