Glen Waverley, Australia
4 Stars  This place was Great
The title being, for those not aware, from the great Aussie TV series Kath & Kim - but Glen Waverley is, in fact, an Inner East/Sth Eastern suburb of the great Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

We moved here from another Melbourne 'burb' entirely because of the Govt School here - Glen Waverley High School - having done all the homework & research first - the school's record is well above average and is a very much sought after school as far as Govt - ie Non-Private - schools go. The area also does have a lot of the better private schools in Melbourne, but they aren't the reason we're here.

Having committed ourselves to this area for reasons of educating the 5 kids we have, it's as well that it's also a nice suburb to live in as well. There is a quite heavy asian population here, again, I'm sure, for the very reason we're here - education. It does make for a great place to be in terms of food, produce, eating-out and all that sort of thing.

It's quite well located generally speaking and is around 30 mins drive to the city, unless one is sensible and catches the train - by far the easiest and best thing to do - but we've yet to do that and so I can't tell you how long it takes on the train to the city.

As for Melbourne - one of the better places on the planet Earth - no doubt about it whatsoever. Very multicultural, superb food and, better yet, coffee - it's very hard to get an 'ordinary/lousy' cup of coffee here and there are some simply outstanding ones. Eating out is simply stunning with whatever nationality you like up for the offering - again, quality is variable, but generally superb.

The climate? Well, it's changeable to say the least - as they say here, if you don't like Melbourne's weather/climate, hang-on for 5 minutes. I can tell you it's pretty accurate, too.

It is cold - I mean when it's cold, it's very cold, though not cold as I know it from the UK - but getting there. Having lived in north Queensland, where it's very hot and humid and the winters are incredibly mild and gorgeous, well, it's a big change living in Melbourne.

But it sure does know how to get hot when it wants to, during the Summer months and can be as hot as anywhere on the planet on it's day.

Overall, though, it's a superb and wonderful city - as much as I really do love Sydney, it's better here in so many ways. The people are different here - have more time for you - and it's a tangible thing, no doubt about it. It's a big city, just as is Sydney, but it has that different 'feel' to it, being so much friendlier - and again, whilst the food in Australia generally is as excellent as anywhere on Earth, it's a lot better, more diverse etc than it is in Sydney.

So if anyone ever does read this, Melbourne is one place you must visit, for the food, for the culture - and, of course, just to say that you have done :)
