We arrived into Brisbane totally shattered after the 17 hour bus drive, but we managed to stay in a really fantastic hostel (it was more like a hotel than a hostel) with a brilliant outdoor bar and club. On our first day we just had a bit of a walk around the city, in particular we went to the botanical gardens where we were just yards from coconuts falling (and almost hitting our heads!). The gardens were good, but they werent a patch on Sydneys. In the evening we cooked our own meal for once, which was a really nice change! We then had an early night so we could get up early the next day.
The next day we went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary where we had one of our best experiences so far - we both got to cuddle a Koala named Elise! we got our picture with them too (but they arent digital so will have to show you all when we get back!). Unfortunatly for Lucy, Elise was mid poo when she cuddled her, but Lucy didnt seem to mind! I also got a bit of poo on me, but I chose to ignore it!
We then fed Kangaroos and Wallabies which was a really odd (but good) experience, coz they can be bloody huge! they were very cute though. We spent the rest of the day looking at possums, wombats, crocs, koala mums & joeys, kookaboras, baby and not so baby emus, tazmanian devils etc.. was very cool.
Finally in the evening we boarded our 19 hour coach to Airlie Beach (we had to skip Fraser Island coz we didnt have enough time).
Our impression of the city was that it was really nice, but it really was just a city and we think we made the right choice to move on when we did.
