It was raining heavily so we decided to do some of the Dells indoor activities. The kids were really hoping to go to Pirates Cove Mini Golf and to ride the rollercoasters. We went to 'Ripley's Believe It or Not' in the downtown shopping district. Half the other visitors to the Dell's decided to go to Ripley's also, as the line was a mile long. I have been to a Ripley's in Oregon. I think they are pretty similar (except for the Temple of Discovery). This is a diversion for teenagers and adults- not small children. Smaller children will be frightened. At the end of the museum is a really neat thing called 'The Temple of Discovery'. It is a interactive gallery/game with smoke and shaking floors. In each cave you try and find the clue in the walls and then push the clue & then something will happen. My daughter loved this part. She could have done it over & over.
For lunch we went to Paul Bunyan's Cook Shanty. We had been to the Paul Buyan's in Minocqua. You really shouldn't miss Paul Bunyan's. B-fast is served 7am-noon & dinner noon-9pm. It is all you can eat, the food is good and you just have to see an old Northwood's Cook Shanty. For lunch/dinner you get coleslaw or salad, bbq ribs (or entree of the day) the bbq sauce was very tangy, camp chicken (fried), mashed pot. and gravy, veggie of day, fresh (really soft, yummy) bread and butter, and dessert of the day (raspberry cake).
After being stuffed we went shopping downtown. It was pouring. It was miserable. After getting soaked to the bone- I thought this was August, we went back to the hotel to swim. We ordered pizza from Bud's Pizza, Portage, WI. It took 2hrs. for our pizza to there & it was cold. Stay away from Bud's.
