We love Madison and enjoy visiting Trent, Amy, Athena and Heinekin when we're there. So on our way south toward home, we stopped by Madison to have dinner with Trent and Amy. They were doggie-sitting for Hobbes, Todd and Stephanie's Golden Retriever. Todd and Stephanie were on a trip to Germany. But Hobbes had not been feeling well, so Amy in particular had her hands full. We left the menagerie for dinner on the Capitol Square at a lovely restaurant where we had traditional Wisconsin food like brats and beer. Then we went to Mike's for frozen custard.
Unfortunately, best laid plans don't always work out. I seem to be plagued more frequently these days with an intestinal cramping problem and I had an attack that night at the La Quinta Inn in Madison. I was in agony, as usual, and it takes about 18 hours for the little pills I take to fully correct things. By then, I'm a basket case. I had had an attack the week before after our dinner with Todd and Stephanie in Chicago too, so I was beginning to wonder what was going on. I usually only had these attacks once every three years or so - twice in one week was worrisome.
We had planned to drive from Madison to Green Bay, then north to the UP, south and east to Columbus, Ohio, through West Virginia and home. We would be able to visit several states we hadn't been to by using that route. But in consideration of my weak condition, we decided to drive straight home instead.
