This is the Air and Space Museum that the Smithsonian build near Dulles Airport. It is only a 20 minute drive from our house. It is big! I've seen the RAF museum and the Battle of Britain Museum outside of London. I've seen the Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson AFB at Dayton. I'll repeat this museum is big! The Air & Space downtown Washington, D.C. was cramped. It did pretty well with small airplanes but the larger ones really didn't work. And by the way the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum has consisstently had more visitors than any other museum in the world.
Getting there? Well if you are downtown there is a shuttle bus that runs between the downtown museum and the one at Dulles. I haven't taken that bus, but I'm guessing it is about a 45 minute ride. There is lots of good parking at the museum. The museum is free, but it costs you $10 to park. If you want to see which airplanes and space vehicles they have, check out their website. It has a fairly ridiculous name like Udvar-Hazy, mainly because he donated a bundle of money to build it if they would name it after him. No one around here can ever remember the correct name.
