Beaumont, Texas
5 Stars  This place was Amazing
The rain was about to catch up with us. When I got up this morning the weather station called for a drizzle in San Antonio, and there was some water on the road outside the motel. We pulled out of the motel at 9:00AM, under heavy clouds, light drizzle, warm temperatures, fog and almost no wind. I had my mind fixed on which way to head out this morning, out of the motel parking lot, turn right and then left on I-10. Couldn’t be any easier than that, a few miles down the road, I discovered I was headed West instead of East. San Antonio is one of those towns where you cannot get off an expressway and then crossover and get back on headed the other way. It is necessary to exit I-10 onto another freeway and then onto another freeway and then onto another road and then follow it for a few miles before you can cross over and get headed into the right direction. Twenty one mile round trip to get back to I-10 where I made the wrong turn. Anyway, the sky looked great to the West, but darker and wet to the East. We were lucky again today, we outran the rain. Our luck can’t hold out much longer. After we passed through Houston, the clouds disappeared and we rode in the sunshine in lower 80 degree temperatures. Speed limit in this part of Texas on I-10 is 65MPH, I continued my speed of 75MPH and still had most vehicles pass me. Some of the vehicles that passed me had to be doing at least 90+MPH and we did see two separate vehicles that managed to lose control and wind up in the ditch alongside the road. In Beaumont, we visited Cowboy Harley Davidson. It is a great, friendly store and huge. Still couldn’t find a pair of boots that I liked, but Peggy managed to find a Harley Davidson Teddy Bear. Motel was right down the road from Harley Davidson and we checked in at 2:30PM after a lucky rain-free ride of 298 miles 5,636 this trip, 127,296 total miles. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see if the rain catches us. If it does we many be stuck here for two days.
