Seemed Out of Date - Course We Live in Las Vegas!

We drove to Reno so my husband could play some golf in Minden, Nevada. First, the trip on the deserted two-lane highway from Las Vegas is the absolute worst! Not only is it the most boring 6 1/2 hour ride we've ever had, but the scant other cars you may meet routinely seem to drive across the center line, so you have to be extra alert. We had a couple of close calls in the middle of nowhere.Also you basically don't go through any towns of any size during the 6 1/2 hours- so if you need facilities, you're pretty much out of luck. Don't drink a lot of water on the way . . .
I don't know what we expected in Reno, but it's a small community with a main street that looks like it's straight out of the 1950's. There was nothing there that enticed us - the casinos were old, and coming from Las Vegas we've been spoiled! We've grown to expect lavish, themed, billion dollar properties. We saw nothing even remotely close to that in Reno.
Although the golf was fine, there was nothing in Minden or Reno that would encourage us to return.
