We took a quick drive up to the Kennedy Space Center and spent the day there. It was very un-crowded you could drive right up to the entrance gate. We took the NASA Up Close Tour (an extra $21.00 per person). We boared a bus to get the closest viewing of the Space Shuttle Launch Pad available to the public. We then are taken to the shuttle landing facility and the vehicle assembly building. The VAB is the tallest room in the world. It can be seen for miles. We saw modules being prepared for the Int. Space Station.
After the bus tour you are dropped off at the complex to tour the different museum areas, exhibits and see the Imax movies. I was not terribly impressed with the exhibits. You would think NASA would have amazing exhibits and original artifacts. I have seen the actual Apollo 13 and the Moon Roover at the Cosmosphere in Hutchinson, KS. The Kennedy Space Center only has replica's.
We did get to meet a retired astronaunt and have our picture taken with-John M. Fabian.
Our kids would much rather have spent a day at Disney. It would have been about the same price. I think that seeing some of that actual sights like the launch pad were interesting. Touring the facility was kind of sad, it reminded me of how the nation use to value space exploration, kids dreamed of being astronaunts, we reached for the stars. Now we cut budgets and use 30 year old technology to launch crafts that are not even televised because no one cares anymore.
We stayed till closing time. Tommorow morning we fly home to the snow and cold. Oh, no!!
Private Notes
