5 Stars This place was Amazing
Up this morning at 6:00AM to cloudy skies and the threat of rain along the Tamiami Trail. Nice and warm though as we departed Homestead at 8:10AM under sunny skies. We headed North on Highway 997, through beautiful farming country, 20 miles to pick up Highway 41 North. As we turned West on Highway 41 we could see the dark clouds ahead of us. We took our time, following a cage at about 52 MPH to kill time, hoping most of the storm would pass before we got to it. About 20 miles up the road we ran into the rain. We pulled off the road and waited for about 15 minutes and the heavy rain passed through ahead of us. But it still left a lot of water on the road and we got wet anyway. We stopped at the Chevron Station at the corner of Highway 41 and 29, the route to Everglades City and paid the highest price yet for gasoline, $2.279. On into Naples and into the motel at 11:30AM, and they actually had a room ready and they let us check in early. The early start and arrival paid off, as the heavy rain arrived about an hour after we checked into the motel. It also gave me some extra time to catch up on computer work, since we could not get on live during the two days in Homestead. We are scheduled to have supper with Wayne tonight (Peggy’s Son) who is temporarily working down here from New York. Into the motel after a damp but great ride of only 115 miles today, 576 miles this trip, 122,180 total miles.
