I was not that impressed with South Beach as a whole. The art deco was amazing and the Duck Boat Tour was a blast but as far as the city itself is concerned; there is not much to do but eat and drink.
I would visit again but only for photgraphic purposes. I doubt I would stay directly in the middle of South Beach because of the expense. I am not one to pay $3.50 for a soda (non-refillable) and $12.00 for a Bloody Mary.
I do want to go on the Duck Boat Tour again and get better photos of Star Island and I want to vist Parrot Jungle Island.
Just be prepared to spend some cash!
