Enjoying South Beach!
My trip to Miami was good and incredibly normal and ordinary. As going to this city was my dream for years when I was an adolescent, I had idealized it and thought that it was more sophisticated and beautiful. I really found it very similar to Cali, my hometown and as everybody spoke Spanish there, well, I felt like I was at home really. I did not find anything different or impressive. Well, I am talking about the city because the beaches and the ocean were just spectacularly beautiful. The bad thing was that as I had gone there to have an intensive fitness workshop, I was very tired all the time and hardly enjoyed all that beauty. Of course, I spent some time in different beaches and while I was in the water, I felt very relaxed and unstressed; I let the waves to move me back and forward and I remember that I was enjoying this so much when I remembered about the sharks; then was when my relaxation came to its end and I better stopped playing as if I were a little girl.
South Beach was my favorite beach and place to walk by. Ocean Avenue or street had wonderful restaurants and stores which were filled whit people from all around the world but for my surprise, most of them were Latin people. I felt so comfortable speaking my language and had a lot of fun with my friends. We laughed a lot about this and that and especially about men who told us some “piropos” (piropos are sayings that Latin men say to women at the streets. Some times these sayings are funny, others romantic, and others pretty vulgar.) Two of my favorites are, “God, angels are falling from heavens!”
And the one always make me laugh, “Babe, why don’t ya introduce your mother to my father, so you and I could be relatives?” “Piropos” are actually pretty normal in Latin culture.
