I did find some deals. We got a hotel from TahoeLastMinute.com for under $80/night. Hotels are pretty spendy in the summertime, but vacation homes and motels seem to be the way to go.
We also read all the local newspapers for locals' deals and specials at restaurants. I can't remember which ones, but I think one was Sprouts.
I'd like to come back during shoulder season maybe when it wasn't so busy.
