Richie and Me just before I go to Phoenix
Well I have retired. Now what? First my plan is to go to Spain for a year to learn Spanish and then seek what else. But first to Phoenix to work for 3 months (April, May, June) to earn enough money to stay in Spain the year.
Phoenix was great. I got into yoga up to 6 hours weekly and into Argentine Tango with lessons in Scottsdale and in Phoenix. Met Laura who became my most significant friend and big influence to change my plan for a year in Spain.
Work in south central Phoenix was challenging and good. It was a poor area with many drug problems and even drug dealings at night in the area. But I enjoyed the staff and patients. Eventually in May went to work in Glendale at a small clinic with different atmosphere. Very small close knit staff and patients. Quaint area.
Met Laura at a milonga (social tango dance). We became very close and shared many interests. Hiking and camping and dancing were great diversions.
Phoenix is huge spread out city with fair amount of pollution. Beautiful mountains surround it. It is a desert. Good hiking in and around Phoenix: Camelback mountain in the city, Sycamore Canyon, Verde River and Inner Basin towards Flagstaff. Mexico is about 2 hours drive to south. Great places to dance these days: O's (salsa on Thusdays), Rhythm Room (Blues), Tapatio Cliffs (jazz), Gainey Ranch. Royal Palms Restaurant has great fool and atmosphere--Spanish decor with outdoor and indoor sittings.
