Acapulco, Mexico
1 Stars  This place was Awful
From a distance, Acapulco and the beaches are quite spectacular, but up close it isn't so nice. Away from the big hotel areas is a very poor city. Some advice:

1- Don't, repeat don't, go to Acapulco in August. I can't speak for the rest of the year, but the heat in August is intolerable.

2- If you're not on an all-inclusive or staying in a villa up in the hills, finding a decent, affordable hotel will be your biggest challenge. (We did not.) The vast, vast majority of tourists book an all-inclusive package.

3- Traveling on your own (i.e., not on an all-inclusive) can leave you wide open to rip-offs, even if you're an experienced traveler.

4- The beaches and the water itself are revoltingly filthy and trash-strewn (yes, even Playa Condesa). People just leave their trash when they get up, or throw it wherever they're standing. Lots of plastic grocery-type bags floating in the water.

I wouldn't return to Acapulco because there are much better places in Mexico that offer almost everything Acapulco does (and without the ripoffs and trash).
