Mutiny On The High Seas
Right let me first start of with saying that i have no problem what so ever with paying full price for a beer. I don't even have a problem with being slightly ripped off when being on a fabulous cruise in the middle of the mediteranean. However, I flat out refuse to pay 8 Lira (8 Aussie Dollars) for a 50 Oz beer.
The Introduction
The birds were singing and the children laughing, the clothes were washed for the first time in months and day looked set to be a crystal clear with not a cloud in the sky. The birds were singing and the children laughing, the clothes were washed for the first time in months and day looked set to bse a crystal clear with not a cloud in the sky. Good morning ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Olympos yachting... wait a minute i was booked to go with V-Go Yachting whats going on!!!! Ahh its all good, only 2 people were booked to go with V-Go so Fez travel (The company that i'm dealing with) moved both of us to another company.
Welcome to the Gullet 'Crnkryr 3' said the skipper. A lively old chap whos jovial personality conceeled a iron will and a stubborn streak a mile wide. 'I hope that you enjoy your 4 day cruise to Olympos there are just a few safety measures that we have to go through...'
As I tuned out the captains drill on safety i turned my attention to the other members of the crew. First to catch my eye was the rough and tumble chef. Another jovial turkish man that certainly looked like he knew his way around a kitchen not to mention probably every single street bar and tavern in Fetihya and Olympos. After that came the deck hands. 2 Burley youths that could stand their own in the face of the fiercest storm and the largest bouncer.
Hour 4
'Beer Beer Beer give me a beer beer beer give me a beer beer beer......' How much for a beer' '8 Lira' .... 'Ha ha ha nice joke how much?' '8 Lira'
Hour 6 - Negotiations
Claudia immediately took offense as to the daylight robery that we were going to be extorted in order to pay for one 20 Oz beer. After negotiations round 1 the captain agreed to 3.50 for a small beer ... if you buy 6.
This simple matter off a disagreement over beer prices quickly started to blow out into demands for refunds... something had to be done!!!!
Brian and myself, both so desperate for a beer, swam over to one of the other charter companies and asked how much for a beer. After paying 3.50 for a large beer and treading water and drinking it we realised something really had to be done. One phone to our tour companies and 6 radio conversations later 2 phone calls to Olymypos yachting we asked the captain to radio the other vessels in port and confirm how much a large beer cost!
Huzzah we got the price down to 4 Lira for a large knock one up for team Bragg and Claudia (Those of you that know my mother would be proud... I didn't know i had such great *negotiation skills*)
Thats all we are all happy and now going to and have breakfast
As Always
Carpe Diem
Ralph Bragg
