The Hapsburg Imperial Palace
Tuesday - So I made it to Vienna. Unfortunately, its still cold and rainy in the area, which seriously detracted from the experience of the city, but it was quite beautiful none-the-less. I got into the city after the 3 hour train ride at about 1ish. I checked into the hostel, and figured I'd try and make the most of my time here...so I looked up walking tours on google and found a suggested route from Frommers through the Old City and tried following that. Kind of like Munich and Salzburg, there is a big pedestrian area in the heart of the city, which I'm really a fan of. I walked within 'the ring' for a couple of hours, stopping outside St. Stephens, St. Peters, St. Michaels, the Imperial palace, the Parliment building, and the Opera houses. The architecture within the old city is pretty amazing...ther are ornate details everywhere, not just on the major buildings. There are fountains everywhere as well. I'm kind of dissapointed that I didn't budget more time for the area, since the city is supposed to have some amazing cultural exhibits and museaums. Maybe next trip to Europe, right? :) I got dinner in a resteraunt near the hostel and had a 'traditional' Austrian dish, baked pork filet and salad. It was pretty tasty (even you would have liked it jason). After dinner I just hung out in the hostel for a bit. Tomorrow is the start of a huge art/architecture bonanza in Italy (starting in Venice), so I'm trying to mentally prepare :) Again, still no USB access, so pictures will be coming as soon as I get the chance!
