St. Maarten, perhaps in the Netherlands Antilles, perhaps not. It was Dutch, at least on the side of the Island we ported at. The other side was French, but we didn't take the time to go there. When I travel I don't like to cram my time with things to do. Lois & I shopped a little, took the water taxi over to the charming town and walked around. It seemed like a real place where people lived in comparison to St. Thomas which seemed like a fake 'buy my junk' place. Perhaps it was the Catholic Church near the pier, or the old city hall. Don't rent a car, you can walk from one end of the town to the other in time a car moved 1 block on the narrow streets. If you want to go someplace else on the Island, take a tour. They have routes away from the town.
WARMING: Almost everyone who took the tour to the French side had BIG allergy problems later and it ruined the rest of their cruise. Lois & I found the best bargains on clothing here. There was one shop, owned by a family from India that was especially nice, both in different mercandise, prices, and friendliness of the merchants. When I come across the name of it, I'll post it.
