San Salvador, El Salvador
4 Stars  This place was Great
I will be traveling to Costa Rica tomorrow, where I will be celebrating Thanksgiving a week early. A friend of mine from the U.S. is already vacationing there at some spa location, and will be joining me in Tamarindo, a rather touristy city (village?) on the Pacific side that is known for its surfing. There are no flights directly from San Salvador to Tamarindo, so I have to fly to San Jose (the capital of Costa Rica) and then catch a smaller plane on a Costa Rican airline, SANSA, to Tamarindo. (Incidentally, SANSA has a great idea - pay $199 for unlimited flights within Costa Rica for a week. What a deal.) Willy printed out the itineraries for me today (even though I purchased tickets from both airlines online, they require presentation of paper) and I noted some interesting items that vary just a bit from the small print of, say, United or American. I assume that the comments (reproduced below without addition of [sic] notations) are primarily due to the small size of the planes (Cessna Grand Caravan 208 B, which SANSA notes are 'approved by the United States Federal Aviation Administration), but I still find them amusing.

'All sansa Flights departs and arrives at the International Juan Satamaria Airport, next to the Fire Department. Storage service is available.' [Should the proximity to the fire department concern or comfort me? And is storage at the fire department?]

'Accordingly with the rules set by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Costa Rica the company uses a standard weight of 185 pounds per passenger, if the passenger weight is higher than 250 pounds the passenger will have to make an additional reservation and pay an additional ticket.' [In other words, fat tourists may need to pay more. Love it!]

'Maximum luggage allowance is 25 pounds per person including carry-on. Excess luggage will be charge at $0,56 per pound.... We handle a maximum of two (6,9' feet) surfboards per flight and pay $10 each way.' [So, that pretty much rules out taking the laptop with me, and may also limit the number of other silly items I can take with me - such as, say, clothes!]

Postings will resume on Sunday or Monday....
