(Wasn't Ciudad Quesada but San Ramon in the canton of San Carlos... I think)
Noelia and Esteban invited me to join their family for a few days of Semana Santa. Noelia is the daughter of Dona Lygia whom I stayed with for a week in January while studying spanish before starting work at Intel.
Semana Santa or Holy Week is the biggest holiday here in this predominantely Catholic country. Almost everyone has Tue, Thu, Fri off of work. (Tue gets moved to the next monday as a legal holiday) The beaches and basically everywhere in the country is full... realy full. Public buses don't run Thu and Fri.
Thursday we went to San Ramon in the San Carlos Canton. There was about 20 members of the extended family there.
We passed the time with good food, playstation, rummy, and conversation.
We also went out thursday night for a few beers at a local bar. This isn't too noteworthy until you learn that during thursday and friday it is illegal to sell alchohol 8-). We found a bar willing to bend the rules and we went back behind the bar to a seating area and enjoyed our beers.
We also went to some thermal springs and to Fortuna and Arenal lake and to see the Volcano. All in all, a good time.
Unfortunately I don't have photos of the family and all of that. I felt that it would be slightly rude or unsightly to take many photos there with the family. And then when we went to see the volcano, I forgot to take my camera!!
