Carribean sunset, Caye Caulker
It was late late when we finally made it through a tumultuous border crossing to arrive in the sleepy town of Corozal (about 20 minutes into Belize). Although the population wasn´t huge, it still showed us a glimpse of belize that was sure to repeat itself...to make a long story short, we had dinner with a crackhead(adam invited him).
Our stay there only lasted a night and then it was on to Caye Caulker, via the bustling Belize City (pop 50,000), A veritable giant in this country of 250,000. Upon arriving in Caye Caulker after a shor t boat trip from the city, we found ourselves quickly thrown into the true laid back garifuna culture that Belize presents. On this island, it felt like life went in slow motion and sure enough we followed suit. We certainly did not accomplish alot but we had a great time doin it.
During our trip down to Placencia, we had a bit of a wait (which we did lots of. it seems to be a belizean pastime.) for a boat to take us through the mangroves to the small beach community. we were immediately latched onto by a swarm of insane belizean children who proceeded to use the two of us as their personal jungle gyms. we were totally worn out by the time our boat came, and after an hour of playfighting and being tossed around all over the place, they were still after us for more. the one in the picture was probably the craziest of the bunch.
Placencia was more of the same. Good times, good people, rastas, and of course that smooth belizean breeze. A great place to spend the birthday of the late, the great Bob Marley.
And onto Guatemala.
