Hello there!
I am in fact not at all in Busan, but in Jeju-do, a little 'paradise'-island south of the mainland. We took the 11h ferry last night at 7pm and had yet another crazy korean karaokenight, this time with Aussie Ben, German Henrik, British Jon and a Korean whose name i cannot even try to spell. After a few Soju's [korean much stronger version of sake] the little karaoke booth with discoball and all was on fire ha ha haaa, very funny!
We arrived in Jeju-do at 6am with the lovely wake up call at 5.30am of the loudest horn in the world and some one screaming 'All stations' down the loudspeaker. So far from feeling like we had arrived on paradise island, i thought we had hit a freaking iceberg he he. But all was well and we got out and pitched the tent in a tiny patch of a park and had a rest after intitially walking off in the wrong direction until finally finding ourselves a cheap and cheerful 'hotel' for the night.
I went for a ride to check out the town and Iho Beach and have so far discovered that korea is indeed very different to Japan, not just the behaviour of the people but the roads too. First i had a bit of trouble getting used to the right-hand traffic and then the fact that the curbs, let alone the streets are in no way designed for bikes. There are barely ANY bikes on the roads, well here on Jeju-do there are a few, but all are mountainbikes... and i understand why!!! Oh and when in Korea...remember to ALWAYS check whether your food [generally fish] is still moving when served to you! ugh! its aliiiive!
Tomorrow we will either attempt to climb Mt Hallasan, the highest mountain on the island. The top of this inactive volcano, 1,950 m (6,398 ft.) above sea level, can be seen from anywhere on the island. But if the weather is not good, we will ride to the south of the island and check out some beautiful waterfalls. I am actually quite busy changing my route plan at the moment due to a VERY exciting new project which i am dying to tell you all about, and will very shortly so stay tuned he hehee!
