Brother invited us out for dinner. Went to the stadium foodcourt near the lake. It was a letdown. Mosquitoes, bad service and numb-ingly untasty hawker food really spoilt the occasional gathering we had. The charkoayteow was dry with no taste, the yong tau foo was expensive with strangely menthol tasting sauce...
As usual I went to my favourite gerai... a Haji's gerai selling meehun sup in Shahab Perdana. The meehun sup was lipsmackingly delicious. The gerai was also clean although the surrounding can be further improved. Discovered a gerai selling yummy looking mee rebus (Mee rebus Abu) at a hawker center on the corner of Jalan Putra and Jalan to Kg Mempelam. Next time must try.
The next morning went for seafood hunting. Drove further north on the Alor Setar Kangar trunk road. Turned left at Simpang Empat Chek Kassim traffic light and used the tarred bund to reach the sea. Saw many locals digging 'mentarang' (a local seashell) on the mud bed but no cockerals.. Letdown again. I was expecting baked fresh cockerals with chilli padi dip for lunch. Bought some dried fish and good quality 'belacan' for wife's occasional doses of sambal. The sun was blisteringly hot.
