LynneHammonds icon Nagato, Japan - Art, Whales and Lighthouses

Nagato, Japan
4 Stars  This place was Great
We departed Hagi after a delicous breakfast at the Hotel Orange and headed south to the city of Nagato. The rain was still coming down in buckets and so our itnerary included mostly indoor activities, ie museums. Our first was a great little art museum in Nagoto that I would recommend to anyone. The artwork by famous Japanese local artist was the kind that made you smile. I bought some great postcards and plan to hang them up so I can enjoy them.

Our second stop was a whaling museum and the curate tried to tell us all about it, but unfortunately he spoke no English and we, no Japanese. But he did give us some reading material about whaling and the International Whaling Commmission and it was very interesting reading. I don't want to start a debate here, but anyone who is intersted should read some of the Japanese point of view on this subject. It seems that we anglos don't believe in either democracy when it comes to whaling. Anything goes and does.

It was a very interesting museum and one which I would recommend highly.

Our last stop of the day, as the rain had now subsided some was a beautiful new bridge and lighthouse. Ill post some picture when I get them downloaded.

PS, the rain hasn't stopped, and the trip home was mostly views of swollen rivers and falling water. When we got home, we saw the news that flash flooding was going on and there were warning to stay on high ground.
