Purple Sweet Potato Icrecream
Gloria (another Westgate teacher living in my building) and I decided to make use of our long weekend by spending Saturday in Kawagoe. As she used to live there, she knew the places to go, and first introduced my to her favourite sushi train place - a 100yen sushi (all the plates are 100 yen) that served some of the best sushi I've ever had anywhere. I'm hoping we can find one of the same chain near here somewhere, but I may be disappointed...
Kawagoe has a few historical buildings left, and several temples, and is also known for 'Confectionery Alley' which is a tiny little street packed with people and lolly shops. Gloria had had to leave by the time we got to that end of town, leaving me to explore alone, with the recommendation of trying the Purple Sweet Potato icecream. I did. It was lovely. I plan to sample it again as soon as I can!
I also saw an old bell tower, and, by coincidence, was there one of the 3 or 4 times a day when it goes 'dong'. It was very exciting.
The old buildings in Kawagoe are black, as they are made mostly of clay - a special fireproof design of the early 18th century. There are only about 20 or so of these black buildings left. Most of them burnt down in 'The Great Conflagration of Kawagoe' sometime in the middle of the 19th century. I found that rather amusing.

One of the temples had this foot massage path. Painful, but good after

Kait-in Temple. Or a bit of something near it, at least.
