member icon Haridwar, India - Shiva ceremony on the Holy Ganges

by curlysue

Haridwar, India
Dusk starts to fall
I didn't go to Rishikesh in the end, instead I took a train from Delhi to the holy city of Haridwar where every evening you can witness and take part in a beautiful ceremony in praise of Shiva the Hindu God, the destroyer! So I went along, and felt very priveleged to witness such scenes! I went in the water, to send off my lighted 'pujas' in little floral baskets up the Ganges..
Buy your flower baskets here!
Set your basket on fire!
Offer your 'puja' (prayer) to Mother Ganges
Watching from the ghats
Beautiful colours and lights
Chanting to the Gods
Fancy some chai after all that ma'am?
