spent two weeks staying at lifesprings farm, about 20 mins from city centre, and working at isubilo - an orhpan care project in the city. talk about opposite ends of the scale. lifesprings is gorgeous! beautiful farm, swimming pool, gourmet food several times a day, incredible views. then walking/cycling through the compounds where the kids live and interviewing them and their families. no electricity, water taps shared between families, children in rags, dilapidated furniture, charcoal/maize storage in the living room, general listlessness and only view from the windows (no glass) is the red dirt and glaring sunlight. Felt worlds apart but nose and sweat glands assured me that i was very much there. Fantastic experience. and some great stories from the kids.
