Jos is a lot colder than the rest of Nigeria, probably due to its high altitude. Its no different from most of the other cities in Nigeria. Parts of it are pretty modern and clean.Others really haphazard and messy.
Vegetation outside Jos is very different from the south. No tropical rainforests here!I was actually surprised to see tall cacti all oround the countryside.
Jos inhabitants are mostly from the Hausa or Fulani tribes. They're VERY friendly and accomodating, like most other Nigerians i came in contact with.
Jos has a national museum which has some stuff that is worth seeing. There's also the Jos Wildlife Reserve.I was able to see certain animals Ive never seen elsewhere, the pygmy hippo for example.
Also try to make a trip to the Yankari Game Reserve. Its probably 200 kms.east of Jos.I, unfortunately, had neither the time nor the money to make the visit.
Jos is about 3 hours from Abuja by road, and a minivan ride could cost you about 500N. I took one of those long distance buses from Lagos. Its half the cost of a plane ride, and gives you a chance to see a lot more of the beautiful Nigerian countryside. You could get a Lagos-Jos bus at Ijora 7UP.They normally leave early morning and early evening.
Be advised, however, road travel is relatively unsafe cos of the frequent highway robberies.I was pleasantly surprised to see my fellow passengers fervently praying before the bus left Lagos.
Private Notes
The highlight of my Jos trip was the radio show i did with Shehu. He is anchor of a show called 'Take a Trip' on RayPower FM. Anyway,I was his special guest and answered questions about India ON AIR.And we got caught by the cops at midnite on our way back!!!
TC took me all around Jos in his Pajero.I was able to see the National Museum,Secretariat, etc. We also attended a music concert at a church at Jos.
I spent a day with Shehu's parents in DELIMI village. That was a lot of fun.He has a dog ,Boxer. His dad sounded really well-read.Also visited Shehu's sister at BUKURU outside Jos.I spent another day at Gideon's house.
And of course,I met the wonderful Shekila.Shes half-Pakistani.Anyway i hope we stay good friends.Last I heard of her, she was off to Czech republic on an ET!!
