Commemorative plaque from 1945 at 'Auberge'
The closest oasis to Cairo is Fayum, with its centre piece Lake Qarun (fed from the Nile via an ancient canal known as Bahr Yusuf) On the south bank of the lake stands a hotel called 'Auberge du Lac', where Churchill hosted King Ibn Saud to a banquet close to the end of WWII.
Private Notes
Situated in the middle of 'nowhere' is this charming haven of old-world hospitality. Once the hunting lodge of King Farouk and meeting place of the rich and famous, the Auberge du Lac is the perfect place to rest and relax amidst the peace and serenity of the Egyptian countryside.
