Maun, Botswana
5 Stars  This place was Amazing
This horseback riding adventure takes EquestrianAdventurer.com to the Okavango River Delta in Botswana on a six day horseback safari. The safari is run by Sarah-Jane Gullick, owner and founder of African Horseback Safaris, and provides guests with an exciting, breathtaking trek through the delta on horseback.

Safaris and accommodations vary from the rainy to flood seasons, but the highly knowledgeable staff always does its best to ensure plenty of time in the saddle with maximum game viewing, including elephants and zebras. Days begin early with a light breakfast and then a four hour morning ride, followed by a larger brunch and a resting period. After a later two hour ride, cocktails and dinner are served as guests watch the sun setting over the beautiful country.

Participating riders must be able to confidently walk, trot and canter, with the understanding that galloping short distances may also be necessary. Staff match each rider to two horses, which are alternated between rides, as each horse only goes out once per day. Horses provided are Namibian Hanoverians, Arabians, and Kalahari/Arab crosses, with both English and Western tack available.

A maximum of 12 guests can be accommodated at once, with each ride consisting of no more than six guests. Each ride also had at least three guides, carrying first aid kits, radios, and rifles for safety. Safaris generally last 5 to 7 days, but longer safaris are available for the even more adventurous traveler.
