DJ-RTW icon CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, Botswana - Rain & Raindrops

by DJ-RTW

CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, Botswana
4 Stars  This place was Great
Nile Crocrodile a little too close for comfort
The names of the currency in Botswana are the local dialect words for rain (dollar) and raindrops (cents). This poetic way of expressing the costs of things iluminates the importance of both rain and money for survival in this poor country.

If you’ve been reading many of these blog entries, you know what is coming next: we saw a lot of wildlife, particularly big game such as elephants and hippos, as well as crocodiles and birds. A late-afternoon cruise on the Zambezi River gave us a chance to see a great number and diversity of birds which was most fascinating for me (and boring for many others!). We saw cranes, egrets, storks, herons, as well as crocodiles and water monitors (lizards).

Even the starlings are gorgeous
Not so wild thing
Old buffalo separate themselves from the herd
Hippos enjoying a mud bath
Water monitor lizards basking in the last sunrays of the day
Great white heron taking off
A couple of storks hanging out
Sunset bath
Sunset on the Zambezi boat cruise
